Create a show and set the room

Every show starts with the New Show picker: choose a room, name the show, and you're in the editor.

Pick a starting point

The picker offers your org's default rooms (Ballroom and Meeting Room out of the box) and any room templates your org has saved from past shows. A template carries its whole layout, so starting from one drops you into a room that already has a stage, finishes, and gear the way your team likes to set up.

:::tip Reuse instead of rebuild If you find yourself drawing the same ballroom or the same festival stage for every event, save it once as a template and start every future show from there. See Manage rooms and the library. :::

Set the room to real dimensions

Once you're in the editor, the properties pane lets you set the room's width, length, and ceiling height to match your actual venue. Switch between feet and meters with the toggle in the header, and every measurement in the show follows. Rooms built with a stage come with one already in place; you can resize it and set its distance from the back wall from the same pane.

Fill in the show's details

Click Details in the header to set the show's client, venue, and notes, plus its start and end dates. Those dates matter beyond bookkeeping: if your org connects ShowKeep, they're what ShowPlot checks your placed gear's availability against. See ShowKeep inventory in ShowPlot.

Next: put gear in the room

With a room set, you're ready to start placing fixtures and staging. Continue with Place gear from the library.
