Finance: value and depreciation
ShowKeep can carry the money side of your inventory alongside the physical side: what each item is worth, what you paid for it, and what it is worth today.
:::note Max feature Value and depreciation reporting is on the Max plan. :::
Value on an item
Every item can carry a day rate, a replacement value, and an insured value. These are set once on the item and apply to every unit or every unit of quantity.
Cost on a unit
Each serialized unit can carry its own purchase price, purchase date, and vendor, since two units of the same item are often bought at different times for different prices. A unit's page shows this alongside its book value: what it is worth today after depreciation.
How depreciation is calculated
Book value uses straight-line depreciation: purchase price minus a share for each year since the purchase date, spread evenly over your organization's configured depreciation period. Set that period, in years, under Settings, Inventory settings. It applies to every unit's book value calculation across the organization.
Where it shows up
- A unit's page shows its book value directly.
- The Reports screen has Value by category, Value by location, and Depreciation reports, each downloadable as a CSV, with the depreciation report totalling cost, accumulated depreciation, and book value across every unit.
:::tip Keep purchase details current Book value is only as good as the purchase price and date behind it. Fill those in when you add units, not after the fact. :::
